The Nigerian men’s handball team, Golden Arrows, on Monday lost 30-18 to Tunisia in their first game of the 25th Handball Nations Cup in Egypt.

The Tunisians, the record winners with 10 titles, allowed the Nigerians to come at them, forced turnovers and scored, a pattern which was evident throughout the game.

Despite the wide margin loss, the Nigerians can take solace in a first half performance which saw them stand toe-to-toe with the North Africans, losing 14-13.

However, on resumption of the second half, the Tunisians had the better chances, which they converted for the convincing win. They were equally good defensively, as they restricted the Golden Arrows to five goals in the second stanza.

The Nigerian team, led by coach Rafiu Salami, will now seek redemption against Cape Verde on Tuesday (today).
