Former Nigeria midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana, has quit his role as Sports Director at Switzerland’s most successful club Grasshoppers after a year at the club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Swiss club made this known in a statement on their website on Monday.

The 41-year-old, who was appointed in May 2021 to replace Jimmy Berisha, helped stabilise the club in the Swiss topflight after they gained promotion from the Swiss Challenge League.

According to club president Sky Sun, the club decided to part ways with Olofinjana and managing director Berisha after the board agreed to a change in management of the squad ahead of the coming season.

“Over the past weeks, intense discussions regarding the future of the club were held,” the statement read.

“Through these open and fair conversations, the parties came to the joint decision to go separate ways.

“As a club with a strong heritage and ambitious vision, our aim must be to continuously push it forward and challenge ourselves on a regular basis.

Following the transparent discussions and in light of the diverging views on the future direction of the club, it was mutually recognised that change within the leadership team was inevitable.

“I would like to thank Jimmy and Seyi (Olofinjana) for their always professional and constructive collaboration. Seyi has always shown great dedication and committed fully to any challenge with strong passion.

“Through his work, he ensured we could tackle the season with a competitive squad. I wish them all the best for their personal and professional future and thank them sincerely for their commitment to Grasshoppers.”

Last season, the 27-time Swiss Super League champions avoided the relegation play-offs after finishing eighth in the league.
