Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Seyi Olofinjana, allegedly resigned from his position as Sports Director at Switzerland’s most successful side Grasshoppers after a year at the club due to interference, The PUNCH reports.
Olofinjana’s exit from the club was announced Monday by the Swiss club.
The 41-year-old, who was appointed May 2021 to replace Jimmy Berisha, helped stabilise the club in the Swiss topflight after they gained promotion from the Swiss Challenge League.
According to club president Sky Sun, the club decided to part ways with Olofinjana and managing director Berisha after the board agreed to a change in management of the squad ahead of the coming season.
But a close source to the former Loans Manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers revealed the Nigerian left his role due to interference.
“After speaking with him (Seyi), he made me know that he wasn’t sacked but he resigned due to some interference hindering his working environment to get things done, as well as detrimental comments which did not sit well with him.
“It’s very important that people get the right picture and not the wrong picture of him being sacked, but him having the guts to stand up for himself and resign in such a situation and environment,” the source said.
Olofinjana made over 50 appearances for Nigeria and represented the Eagles in three Africa Cup of Nations in 2004, 2008 and in 2010.
