The Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Halliru Jika, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has dumped the All Progressives Congress, under whose umbrella he was elected to the Upper Chamber.

Jika, a former House of Representatives contested the APC governorship primary election but came second with 278 votes, losing to a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who got 370 votes.

The lawmaker made his position known in a letter addressed to the Chairman of APC in Kafin Madaki Ward, Ganjuwa local government and dated 16th June 2022, titled, ‘Resignation of membership of All Progressives Congress Party’, and obtained by our correspondent.

He said, “I humbly write to appreciate the leadership of the All Progressive Congress for the opportunity given to me to participate in the just concluded Governorship Primaries Election held on the 26 of May 2022.

“Based on the aforementioned and due consultation with political associates, promptings from my teaming supporters including women and youths, I wish to notify you of my resignation as a Member of the Party with immediate effect.”

This is coming days after Hon. Farouk Mustapha, who also recently contested for the 2023 Bauchi APC governorship primary but lost, dumped the party.

A former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Arc. Audu Katagum, also resigned his membership of the opposition APC in the state.

He was sworn in as deputy governor to the immediate past Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, after the then deputy, Nuhu Gidado, resigned from office.

Katagum said he decided to dump the party because the principles for which he joined the APC were no longer there.

“After thorough consultation with my supporters and family members have come to the conclusion that the principles for which I joined the APC in 2014 are sadly no longer there.

“I have served the party diligently from 2015 to 2019 during the administration of Barr M.A Abubakar as Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor, and have been active in its promotion from 2019 to date. It is therefore with a sense of honour that I tender my resignation as a member of the APC,” Katagum said.

A former Senior Special Assistant Political to a Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Aliyu MaiAuduga, in a letter he addressed to the Chairman, Dankade Ward in Bauchi LGA, said he was resigning from the party with “my teeming supporters.”

Similarly, the gov candidate of the NNPP in Bauchi State, Yusuf Ibrahim, also resigned his candidature.

He stated this in a letter addressed to the State Chairman of the party titled, ‘Notification of withdrawal as Gubernatorial candidate under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.’

Ibrahim said his decision was “due to my own personal reasons. I regret any inconveniences this action might have caused.”
