A socio-political grouping, Coalition of Due south East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), has criticized antagonists of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue Province over comment on the province of affairs in the southeast part.
DAILY POST recalls that the Benue Province Governor, Samuel Ortom had called on the Federal Authorities to honor the Federal Character Rule to cease marginalisation and injustice in shape of appointments and developmental projects.
Ortom who spoke in Enugu spell delivering a keynote address titled: “Emerging Security State of affairs in the Due south East: The Location of Good Governance,” at the one-day lecture series organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu Chapel, posited that insecurity in the part and other parts of Nigeria can only be addressed when leaders set aside sentiments and face the monster.
The Benue Governor’s place has been greeted with criticisms on social and impress media from the oppositions.
But, the Coalition of Due south East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), in a statement jointly signed by its President Full general, Goodluck Egwu Ibem and the National Publicity Secretarial assistant, Comrade Okey Nworu and issued to journalists in Umuahia, on Saturday, said Governor Ortom’s place resonated with the yearnings and aspiration of the people of the southeast of Igbo extraction.
The grouping insisted that southeast remained neglected with federal infrastructural decays littered in every section of the part, and lopsided federal appointment in defiance of the rule of federal character.
COSEYL urged the antagonists of Benue Governor to leave of absence the latter out of their politics of tummy infrastructure as Ndigbo deserves infrastructure, appointments and representation in Nigeria as presently constituted.
According to the statement, COSEYL affirms the place Governor Ortom, stressing that nil new was said and should only be amplified so that a national conversation is birthed and capable of addressing problems in the country.
According to the statement, “Ortom is beingness accused of using the Southeast to advance his cause. We wishing to permit the persons behind that article of shame understand that Ortom has, for long, remained a vocalisation in the wilderness. He has been vocal in matters affecting his province (Benue) and exterior of the province.
“What precisely did Ortom say in his keynote address in Enugu that undermined the place of the governors of the part? Is it the telephone for infrastructure in the part? Insecurity? Neglect in federal appointments against the federal character principles? All these are plagues the part has suffered and so deserve to be entertained by every Nigerian.
“We wishing to affirm that the place of Ortom resonates and sits good with the yearnings and aspirations of the good people of the Southeast and Ndigbo. To this cease, we believe that: Governor Ortom, in holding such persuasion did not in whatever way, undermine the place of the 5 governors of the part. Governor Ortom is in exercise of his civic duties to vocalisation his persuasion which is in the involvement of not only Ndigbo or the part but the country in the visible light of the current insecurity challenges.
“Anybody who holds a opposite view should examine themselves whether they are acting in the overall involvement of Ndigbo or are playing ‘the enemy within.
“As a youth coalition that wants peace, both regional and national, we affirm that, whether on the basis of federal character rule, appointments are as distributed amidst all groups in Nigeria, our insecurity wouldn’t be as alarming as it is at present.”
