Doyin Okupe, an ex-media aide to the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Political party (PDP), will lose the 2023 presidential election whether they nowadays a candidate from the northward.
He stated this spell speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday.
Okupe claimed PDP’s zoning system ended with the 2019 presidential election but that some people within the political party are insisting on presenting a northerner for the 2023 poll.
According to him, some politicians were defecting from the opposition political party, because of the insistence on a northerner as presidential candidate.
“The zoning system which the PDP started in 1998 was based on the supposition that the political party will be in powerfulness consistently but the second it lost powerfulness in 2015, automatically the system has to be reviewed in view of the evolution
“When the PDP lost powerfulness, there was a southern president in powerfulness. Whether the political party didn’t lose powerfulness and completed in 2019, zoning would kicking in and powerfulness would have shifted to the Northward.
“Notwithstanding, the political party that won the election presented a northern candidate who by 2023 would have ruled for 8 years.
“We still carried on as whether the former system was still in location in 2019 and it was justifiable because within the PDP at that time for us to pose forward a northern candidate.
“In 2023, with APC having ruled for 8 years with a northern candidate, it will be preposterous, unjust, uncaring, and blatant for the PDP to zone the presidential ticket to the northward because the system expired the second our political party lost powerfulness in 2019.
“There should be a reset of the zoning system in 2023. It does not create sense to replace a northern authorities of 8 years with some other northern authorities for some other 8 years, it doesn’t create sense.
“That is why the PDP should zone the presidency to the Southward. The southern governors who are the leaders of the Southward had spoken, we should take heed to them.
“It will be folly, reckless and insensitive for whatever political political party to disregard the place of the southern governors
“Some people who think they command wealth are talking within the political party spell fair and strong men are keeping quiet. Some are existence given money to hold quiet.
“The struggle betwixt Secondus and Wike is unnecessary. It ought not to have degenerated to this level. Our political party may lose once more whether we zone the presidency to the Northward once more in 2023,” Okupe said.
