The Nigerian Regular army has confirmed the arrest of pop Nollywood thespian, Chiwetalu Agu in Anambra Province.
DAILY POST had reported that Chiwetalu Agu was manhanled and molested by the Nigerian Regular army troops for wearing Biafra vesture.
The picture legend was walking within the Upper Iweka Bridge when 2 soldiers of a sudden accosted, wrestled him to the ground and dragged him.
Agu was reportedly sharing food to the less privileged persons when regime forces stopped him.
Notwithstanding, a statement by Onyema Nwachukwu, issued Brigadier Full general Manager Regular army Public Relations said Agu was arrested spell inciting members of the public and soliciting for back up for the proscribed Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Nwachuwku said he was picked upward for questioning spell inciting members of the public to bring together the proscribed grouping.
Nwachukwu denied that the thespian was assaulted or brutalized but said he attempted putting upward some resistance when troops made elbow grease to take him into custody.
”Spell the NA recognizes the inalienable rights of the citizenry to liberty of motion and facial expression as enshrined in the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is apparently a violation for whatsoever private or grouping to incite the public to cause mayhem or break downward of law and tell.
”It is thus pertinent to province that spell exercising such freedoms, it must be done within the confines of the law, bearing in head the vital for peace, and national security.
”For the avoidance of incertitude and emphasis, the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) remains proscribed . Hence, whatsoever private or grouping seen to be projecting and advancing the cause or activities of the grouping is viewed as brazenly challenging the constitutionality of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
”To a greater extent worrisome, was the fact that considering the prevailing security state of affairs of the part, coupled with the ongoing Exercise GOLDEN DAWN , his activeness could be a tacit endorsement and back up for the proscribed grouping. We have all witnessed the activities of the grouping take a violent dimension in recent times,” he said.
The Regular army accused Agu of demonstrating uncharitable disposition to negate peace and security in the part, adding that he was taking into custody for preliminary investigation.
Nwachuwkwu stressed that the Regular army would not allow IPOB and its sponsors to take hold the part captive and allow the security state of affairs to degenerate.
He warned Individuals or groups who fan the embers of violence to desist or face the consequences of their actions.
