Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho has said that his two penalty misses against Switzerland in the group stages of the Qatar 2022 qualification series would haunt him forever.
Those penalties he missed ultimately meant Italy dropped down into the play-offs.
And the Azzurri suffered a shocking defeat to North Macedonia to kill every hope of playing in Qatar later this year and Jorginho was practically inconsolable after the defeat.
Speaking, a tearful Jorginho told RAI, “It is difficult to explain what happened.
“It hurts so much. I’ll be honest, I am still incredulous. Unfortunately, we were unable to finish them off.”
Reflecting on his previous penalty misses, which threw Italy into the playoff instead of an outright qualification, Jorginho said the situation would haunt him forever.
“It hurts when I think about it, because I do still think about it and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.
“Stepping up there twice and not being able to help your team and your country is something that I will carry with me forever, and it weighs on me,” he stated.
