11 (11) persons have been confirmed killed by a grouping, popularly known as Yan Sakai in Mammande weekly marketplace in Gwadabawa local authorities area of Sokoto Province.
Confirming the incident, the Constabulary PPRO in the province, ASP Abubakar Sanusi, in a statement, said the Yan Sakai grouping which had been outlawed by the province authorities due to its alleged excesses raided the marketplace on Thur afternoon.
The statement explained that the perpetrators of the heinous human activity had been identified and apprehended by the law.
DAILY POST learnt that many others sustained various degrees of injuries from gunshots and machete cuts by the attackers.
The injured persons were taken to the Orthopaedic infirmary, Wamakko and the Province Specialist infirmary, Sokoto.
Reacting to the onset, the chairman of the local authorities, Aminu Aya explained that “the Yan Sakai came from the neighbouring Goronyo Local Authorities Area but cannot ascertain whether they were residents of that area or not.”
He farther explained that the Fulani are from the neighbouring communities, stressing that they came to the marketplace to purchase food items, amidst other things.
The chairman said the incident occurred around 3pm on Thur when Yan Sakai identified and shot 15 Fulani on the spot.
He said that 11 of them died instantly, patch 4 sustained fractures as a outcome of gunshot injuries they sustained.
He said, “As I speak, we have taken the injured to the Orthopaedic Infirmary in Wamakko, patch the 11 corpses have been deposited at the mortuary.”
