At least two people were accounted for dead in a big hauler fire that occurred in Ogidi, close to Onitsha, Anambra State on Sunday night.
DAILY POST assembled from sources that around 14 transports were likewise singed while properties worth huge number of naira were harmed by the fire at the famous International Building Materials market.
The fire began Sunday evening at about 8pm when a fallen big hauler passing on inflammable substance fell into a waste and started fire subsequent to spilling its content.
A occupant of the space who professed to be at the scene when the occurrence occurred, said the big hauler was fixed when another explained vehicle trailer smashed into it, following a deficiency of control.
He said, “A few extravagance transports left around the space promptly went up on fire. Shops and structures inside the space were likewise not left out as well. The fire was an excess of that it was hard for fire administration officials to battle.”
Chief Fire Service official in the State, Engr. Martin Agbili affirmed the episode, saying two people passed on in the occurrence, while 14 transports and properties were lost to the inferno.
He said, “Quickly we were alarmed, I sent my men who raged the scene with five fire engines to fight the fire which went on for a few hours.
“The transports influenced in the episode were those inside the space. We say thanks to God we had the option to contain the fire.
The police representative, Tochukwu Ikenga additionally affirmed the episode, saying, “our men have cordoned off the space by and by, to keep away from hooligans exploiting the fire to loot.”
