Rampaging youths from Ebyia Unuhu community in Abakaliki LGA of Ebonyi Province on Monday set ablaze a house belonging to the council chairman, Emmaunel Nwangele for allegedly conniving with Ebubeagu security operative to arrest one of their fellow member, who reportedly died during torturing.
DAILY POST gathered that the squabble started when the S.A to the chairman one Chukwudi Onyiba invited Ebubeagu security operative to arrest a individual at Ebyia community but on the physical process of interrogation the suspect died, which provoked the youths into razing the house of the chairman.
It was every bit gathered that the rampaging youths also razed a Invitee House popularly known as ‘Bosco’ belonging to the chairman’s S.A and located along Hatchery Route, Abakaliki.
Nwangele, who spoke to journalists on the incidents, said “I was in relation to to go to the village that nighttime to calm the youths but somebody around me that time told me that it was tardily, that it is superior in the forenoon. It was after that that I was informed that somebody died and that they are rampaging to the extent that they came to one Bosco Invitee House and they were dispersed by the police force. They went dorsum home and set ablaze houses.
“I was called that they also moved to my possess house and also set it ablaze, destroying so many things. I said why, when I don’t know the genesis of the job? Tardily in the nighttime, they also went dorsum to that Bosco’s hotel. According to information, they were fifty-fifty trying to come up to Abakaliki Local Regime headquarters but security agencies prevented them .
“Information reaching me say that they conveyed Ebubeagu people to go and arrest somebody who stole something and on the way to that location, they had a clash with somebody who overtook their vehicle and from there, they had some squabble and it was led by one soldier from that our village who was posted exterior but was in the village.
“It was one of the Ebubeagu boys that they said that had encounter with them and Bosco wasn’t fifty-fifty with them that he was on the steering. This was what I was told, I don’t fifty-fifty know anything in relation to it,” he said.
DAILY POST farther gathered that policemen and other security operatives who stormed the Bosco Invitee house, started shooting sporadically on air to repel the rampaging youths, but a stray bullet from the shooting killed a pastor who was praying within a 3 story building located nigh the scene.
An eyewitness, who spoke to journalists on anonymity, said: “we were hearing gunshots, and I was running exterior to take in my motorcar that was packed exterior, patch going the security men chased me dorsum and locked our gate. As I was running my children followed me, so instead of running within my possess building, I decided to run to the 3-storey building, to the upstairs where we can regard what was happening, on looking for the story to remain we heard some one shouted my daddy my daddy, we started checking were the shouting came from, it happens to be from the pastor’s flat.
“When we went in there, we saw the pastor lying on the ground, he later died in the infirmary,” the source said.
When contacted, the Police force Public relations officer, PPRO, Ebonyi Province police force command, ASP Levi Philip, confirmed the incidents, saying that 6 persons have so far been arrested including the chairman’s SA to reply for their involvement in the criminal offence.
