NEWS UPDATE: SSANU/NASU protest in Port Harcourt over sharing formula for earned allowance

Members of the Academy of Port Harcourt department of the Senior Staff Organization of Nigeria Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, on Fri, staged a protestation in rejection of the proposed sharing formula of the N22.12 billion earned allowance by the federal authorities.

This comes 2 weeks after the federal authorities released the payment formula for the earned allowance.

The delay in the disbursement of the money is notwithstanding due to the disagreement by SSANU and NASU.

The academy workers who marched around UNIPORT campus threatened indefinite strike should the authorities go ahead to implement the 75% (for academic staff) against 25% (non-teaching staff) sharing formula.

The department Chairman of SSANU, Bernard Ezebunwo-Chukwu, who addressed journalists, said “we have been clamoring for the alter but they don’t seem to harken to what we are saying.”

“This protestation is to tell the world that what happened before is going to happen once again.

“Possibly the Nigerian authorities is happy seeing their institution existence truncated at intervals occasioned by what they can settle.”

Also speaking the department Chairman of NASU, Ogbaegbe Osoruchi, announced a two-week ultimatum for the federal authorities to contrary the released sharing formula or “look strike”.

He also called for the payment of their “minimum wage arrears” which is already “overdue”.

The protestation was called by the National leadership of the Articulation Activeness Commission of the 2 unions.
