NEWS UPDATE: Smugglers reportedly kill Customs officer in Ogun

Some young people said to be runners have supposedly killed an official of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Ogun State.

DAILY POST accumulated that the occurrence occurred on Saturday at Owode, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun, causing emergency in the town.

Owode is about 20km to Idiroko, the Nigerian line with the Benin Republic.

The dealers were said to have assaulted the Customs official during the capture of their pirated sacks of unfamiliar rice.

DAILY POST discovered that the killed official was a driver of one of the watch vehicles of Zone ‘A’ of the Federal Operating Unit of the NCS.

The FOU had blocked the carried merchandise Saturday night, in this manner causing the indignation of the bootleggers, who in response, assemble to the scene to forestall the seizure.

They were said to have taken shots at the official while fixing one of the two vehicles passing on the held onto snuck rice, what stalled, following a mechanical fault.

The representative of Customs zonal Federal Operational Unit, Theophilus Duniya, has affirmed the episode to newsmen on Sunday.

Duniya clarified that the bootleggers, who were furnished with risky weapons and charms, prepared themselves in enormous numbers and assaulted the official and killed him.

He added that the inert body of the official had been kept in a morgue.
