The Senate Commission on Surround on Monday disclosed that the total of N16 billion debt owed by province governments was included in the Ministry building of Surround’s 2022 budget to be serviced.
Chairman of the Commission and former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu disclosed this on Monday after he presented his budget to the appropriation commission, saying that the debt was owed by province governments and not the federal authorities.
The Chairman, Senate Commission on Surround, Senator Ike Ekweremadu who dropped the tip during the presentation of his commission’s written report before the Commission on Appropriation in Abuja.
Senator Ekweremadu expressed dissatisfaction that similar money of in relation to N6 billion was included in the 2021 budget, which his Commission had queried the Ministry building of Surround in times yesteryear.
He described as unlucky, the fact that some other total of N16 billion debt was included in the 2022 budget for the federal authorities of Nigeria to service.
He said the loan was approved by a world institution for states authorities in the country and not for the Federal, with a moratorium of 10 years before the states authorities would begin the initiation of payment of the loan and wondered why the ministry building keeps reflecting it in each yr’s budget cycle.
He urged the Commission on Appropriation to write to the Ministry building of Finance to regain ways of retrieving the N16 billion.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Senator Ekweremadu who failed to refer the states that collected the loan said he foresaw a grand plot to defraud the Federal Regime.
Ekweremadu expressed confidence that the Senate Commission on Appropriation would acquire to the root of the matter and grip the example in the best involvement of Nigerians.
Also speaking on the elbow grease to command desertification, he said in relation to 6 hundred and ninety-two million trees are to be planted in 11 states of the Northward to check desertification in the part.
He explained farther that the trees planting would be funded by the Great Greenish Wall initiative.
He stressed that the initiative has no time frame attached to it, noting that the thought was aimed at addressing issues associated with desertification in the country.
Before, the Chairman Senate Commission on Appropriation Senator Jibrin Barau expressed satisfaction with the written report and commended the Commission on Surround for a job good done.
