Members of various socio-cultural groups in the Owerri zone and sons and daughters under the aegis of Coalition for Owerri Reawakening on Saturday expressed concern over the killings of immature men since the administration of Senator Hope Uzodinma in Imo Province.
The grouping in a summit attended by elders, academia, captains of industry, businessmen and women, professional person bodies, amid others where they raised eyes brows over worsening economical, social, and political conditions facing the people of the zone, queried why immature people were beingness killed across the province.
The summit was chaired by Maj. Gen. Collins R.U Ihekire.
It called on the authorities of Imo Province to start a healing physical process by halting the trend and reaching out to families of the victims.
The grouping, piece appreciating that the status of a province working capital comes at a cost, famous with dismay that there seems to be a deliberate policy to return Owerri people homeless by the wanton grabbing of lands by successive administrations since 1976, which reached a crescendo betwixt 2011 and 2019 and has also reared its ugly top dog in Uzodinma’s administration.
It said,”Most worrisome is the fact that most lands taken from Owerri people under the abuse of the Earth Employment Human action for overriding public involvement are later converted to private employment.”
It said till date, nil concrete has been done to rebuild the Ekeukwu Owerri ancestral market place or compensate those who lost their loved ones and goods worth billions of naira to the illegal demolition of the market place.
The summit appreciated the people of Orlu and Okigwe zones for “harkening to our call by massively electing an Owerri son as Governor of the province in 2019 but notes that the unlucky Supreme Tribunal judgment of 14th Jan has worsened the state of affairs on the political equation in the province”.
It commended Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for making Owerri’s zone and indeed, Imo people proud during his 7 months remain in business office by addressing the myriads of administrative and infrastructural challenges top dog on, assuring him that history will not forget him.
