Rotimi Amaechi, the Government minister of Transport, has blamed ethnicity for the slow pace of evolution in Nigeria.
Amaechi, in a statement on Fri, disclosed that rail projects around Nigeria were built for the growth of the country’s economic system rather than ethnic biases.
The former Rivers Province Governor identified what he called politicising of railway evolution as one of the main challenges hindering the authorities’s sweat to stimulate the economic system.
The government minister, who was speaking as a invitee lecturer at the Annual Public Lecture of the Department of Economics at the Academy of Lagos, famous that shipping as a model involved logistics.
Ameachi added that shipping is responsible for driving the economies of nations; virtually everything we do involves shipping.
He said, ”It’s a key element in driving the evolution of economies all over the world and it creates possibilities for other sectors; thus, you cannot fifty-fifty create occupation whether you don’t create logistics.
“Nigerians are too ethnically witting. You think firstly of your ethnicity before you think as a Nigerian.
”Ethnicity is putting force per unit area on the economics of railway interpretation. What you hear is, ‘I am a Yoruba man, I am a Hausa man, I am an Igbo man.”
“Railway is fuelled by economical activities, it is not fuelled by tribes.
“Ethnicity isn’t the way to go. Those who fan the embers of ethnicity are those who were benefitting from the authorities in the past times, but are no longer benefitting from the authorities.”
