The Zamfara Province Constabulary Command says it has arrested one Mr Bello Rugga, a notorious bandit commander terrorizing parts of the province.
The province’s Commissioner of Constabulary, CP Ayuba Elkanah, who made the disclosure piece parading the kingpin with 21 other suspected bandits and their collaborators, on Saturday in Gusau, the province working capital, said 5 others were also neutralized during a raid in Gummi Local Regime Area of the province.
The Commissioner revealed that the kingpin was a leader of a bandit gang who was before declared wanted by the command.
“On Oct. 1, 2021, Constabulary Tactical Operatives on Anti-Banditry Surgery around Gummi axis, acted on intelligence study, stormed Gidan Bita, Malakar and Kagara woods, and arrested one notorious bandit’s commander, Bello Rugga.
“The suspect happens to be a commander to a wanted bandits gang leader, popularly known as Turji.
“Rugga was in charge of Gummi, Gidan Bita, Malanjara and Kagara woods in Gummi LGA of the province.
“He has coordinated a series of attacks in parts of the province leading to the unwarranted killings of harmless people and kidnapping of many others for ransom,” he said.
According to the Constabulary Commissioner, the suspect had several other bandits under his command at the time he was arrested.
The CP added that AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from him during the raid, saying the suspect is currently in the custody of the command undergoing investigation.
Some other suspects who were said to be informants were also paraded by the commissioner, he added that they were nabbed piece conveying big consignments of drugs, bags of cannabis, and petrol to a woods where the bandits are camping ground.
He farther revealed that those neutralised were amongst the bandits who masterminded many attacks in different parts of the province especially Zamfara W Senatorial District.
