NEWS UPDATE: Police apprehend 259 criminal suspects in Niger

The Police force command in Niger Province says its operatives arrested in relation to 259 suspects over banditry, kidnapping, culpable murder, rape, farmers/herders conflicts and other crimes in the month of August.

The Niger Province Commissioner of Police force, Mr Monday Kuryas, explained that the crimes were committed in 25 local authorities areas of the Province.

The Commissioner of Police force explained that, “We have charged 119 suspects out of the 259 arrested in tribunal, 81 of them are still standing trial.”

Kuryas also said that 59 suspects were still under investigation at the province Criminal Investigation Bureau, saying that nine cases have been sent to the province’s Ministry building of Justice for vetting and legal advice.

He stated that the command also recovered 3 locally-made single barrel guns, one Dane gun, and 2 locally-made pistols with 3 live cartridges.

He explained that the command dealt with banditry in Ma’undu village of Mariga Local Regime Area, existence the stronghold of bandits.

He famous that the Area Commanders and Divisional Police force Officers in the 25 local authorities areas have been directed to beef upwardly security architecture in their respective areas of supervision to curb the activities of bandits and other criminal elements.

He appealed for back up and cooperation from members of the public to give them information that could assistance in apprehending miscreants in their midst.

The Police force Commissioner assured that they were battle ready to face up whatsoever individual or grouping of miscreants undermining the peaceful nature the Province was known for.
