NEWS UPDATE: Nigeria @61: No reason to lose hope, we’ve come a long way – Gov Sanwo-Olu

Lagos Province Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says there is no reason for Nigerians to lose hope in the country, fifty-fifty in the midst of challenges.

Sanwo-Olu said Nigeria has fought a civil state of war, experienced several coups, adding that the country is no longer where it used to be.

The governor said this during a programme to score Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary celebration on Fri at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

He said as the country celebrated its independence, citizens were mindful of the various challenges confronting them as a country and as a province.

According to him, the citizens are every bit mindful of the various vistas of progress that have opened upwardly and which proceed to give them hope that the “Nigeria of our dreams can be achieved”.

“61 years agone, the struggle of our forefathers and nationalists to unloose our country from the shackles of colonialism and attain the status of a sovereign and independent country came to a happy ending with the lowering of the Union Jack and hoisting of the Greenish White Greenish Flag.

“In the years since and so, so much has also happened to us as a country.

“We’ve fought a civil state of war, experienced several coups, and ultimately overcome military machine dictatorship and restored democratic governance.

“Fifty-fifty in the face of the many challenges confronting us as a people and as a country, my message to every Nigerian at this time is that we’ve no reason to lose hope.

“There’s plenty evidence around us of the fact that spell we’re not yet where we would similar to be as a country and a people, we’re also no longer where we used to be,” he said.
