Major CL Datong, who was kidnapped during an onset on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna Province by bandits finally month has finally regained his liberty.
DAILY POST recalls that some gunmen suspected to be bandits broke into the Nigerian foremost military machine school on August 24, killed officers and abducted Major CL Datong.
The abducted Major has been in the kidnapper’s den till he was rescued on Fri.
The Deputy Managing director, Ground forces Public Relations 1 Partitioning, Nigerian Ground forces, Colonel Ezindu Idimah who confirmed the evolution, said Datong was rescued by troops.
According to him, the operations leading to his rescue led to the devastation of several identified bandits’ camps in Afaka- Birnin Gwari areas of the province, revealing that scores of bandits were killed during the surgical procedure, especially, in the tardily hours of September 17, 2021.
He said the Partitioning in conjunction with the Air Task Strength, Department of Province Services and other security agencies, straight off swung into activity by conducting operations in the Afaka full general area to regain and rescue the officer after a directive by the Principal of Ground forces Staff.
“The troops arrived at a military camp suspected to be the location where Maj CL Datong was existence held. At the military camp, the troops exchanged flame with the bandits and overwhelmed them with superior flame.
“In the physical process, the gallant troops were able to rescue the abducted officer. Nevertheless nonetheless, the officer sustained a pocket-size injury but has been treated in a medical facility and handed over to NDA for farther activity,” he said.
He lauded the efforts of the NAF, DSS , Nigerian Police force and “patriotic Nigerians” who worked tirelessly for the release of the victim.
