Niger Province Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has inaugurated an eight-man Commission of Research to investigate the killings in Maza-Kuka, Addogon Malam Kulho and other communities in Mashegu Local Regime Area of the province,
It would be recalled that on 25th of Oct, bandits attacked Maza-Kuka community, killing 18 persons and injuring many.
On the 26th, the vigilante grouping of Maza-Kuka invaded the neighbouring Adogon-Malam community believed to be majorly occupied by Fulanis, killing people including the District Chief and his blood brother, in retaliation.
The Governor in a press statement signed by his Principal Press Secretarial assistant, Mrs. Mary Noel-Berje famous that senseless killings have continued unabated because there haven’t been appropriate punitive sanctions on those found culpable.
“The senseless killings in some communities in the province is partly attributable to the inability of the authorities to adequately punish those flagrantly taking laws into their hands.
“We must be able to do the right thing. Those taking laws into their hands must be seen to face justice to preclude others from executing similar senseless acts and ensure that it does not occur over again in futurity”, he said.
He tasked the commission to exercise justice and fairness and do a thorough investigation and research stressing that those found guilty must face punitive measures in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Bello, who gave the commission one month to submit its study, thanked members for accepting to serve, stressing that they must fighting all temptations, pressures and external influence in say not to return the exercise futile.
“The commission’s terms of reference to include: To determine the remote and instant cause(s) of the unlucky incident; place the individual’s or groups responsible for the attacks; apportion blames to persons or groups found culpable and propose appropriate sanctions”
“The commission also has the mandate to determine the identity of the victims and their losses; advise the authorities on preventive measures to avoid a similar occurrence in the futurity as good as create other appropriate findings and recommendations”.
Members of the commission include Hon. Justice Danladi Ahmad as its Chairman. Other members of the commission include; Hon. Kasimu Danjuma, Retired C.P Wakili Maye, Retired C.P. Mohammed Danjuma, Barr. Moses Ciroma, Col. Abdullahi Kudu (rtd), Malam Yakubu Musa and Malam Zakari Shafi’i (Secretarial assistant).
The Chairman of the Commission of Research, Justice Danladi Ahmad in his credence speech expressed gratitude to the province authorities for the honour and opportunity to serve and assured that the commission will strive tough to ensure that it did not allow the province downwardly.
He said members of the commission will inject their private and collective experience to effectively discharge the terms of reference of the assignment and accomplish the desired results.
