The Osun Province Law Command has paraded 5 suspects allegedly behind the murder recorded in Modakeke betwixt 12th May and 20th August, 2021.
It would be recalled that 2 Modakeke indigenes were in June killed spell on their way to farm, spell some other 5 persons were gruesomely murdered in August this yr at Alape village.
The 5 male person suspects arrested included Akingbala Olakunle, aka All Stand up, Owoniyi Segun, aka Agbede, Shina Adeyemi, Awotinde Elijah and Daramola Muideen, aka Ede.
They were paraded at the Headquarters of the police force command, with weapons recovered from them, which included a double barrell gun, 5 live cartridges, a knife, a cutlass and an axe.
According to the Commissioner of Law, Olawale Olokode, the first off 2 murdered individuals were Modakeke indigenes.
He said it was was as a outcome of dry land and farm disputes betwixt Modakeke and Ile-Ife.
Olokode explained that the incident generated anger in the brain of Modakeke youths, prompting some hooligans from Modakeke who armed themselves with different weapons, to take revenge against Ife indigenes, presumed to be behind the killing.
“The police force arrested the state of affairs and obstructed their ugly attempts. Several peace meetings were held, and undertakings made to forbid a repeat occurrence,” he said.
The Osun Law boss revealed that surprisingly on 20th August, 2021 at Alape village, 5 men which included, Oladele Ismaila, Oladele Afeez, Taye Animashaun, Shina and one other were going to their farmland but unknown gunmen ambushed and killed them.
“This unwarranted and barbaric murder provoked the Modakeke indigenes, because they presumed that the people killed were their people.
“They decided to take revenge on the Ife communities but their efforts were thwarted by the immediate intervention of the Law and other sis security agencies.
“The 5 deceased were not from Modakeke as erroneously insinuated by the people of Modakeke.
“This ugly incident made the Law to swiftly swing into activeness that led to the arrest of 5 key suspects as highlighted higher up. Some other suspects were arrested by the Law.
“They are undergoing investigation to ascertain the grade of their involvement in the example. Adequate security measures have been pose in location by the Law to ensure this deed of lawlessness is pose under command.
“The suspects will be charged to tribunal at the completion of investigation for prosecution,” he added.
Olokode also assured that the command will go on to work tirelessly to ensure the province is unloose from all kinds of criminal elements.
