NEWS UPDATE: Gunmen attack APC meeting in Anambra, kill one, injure others

Gunmen on Dominicus reportedly attacked some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nnewi N Local Regime Area of Anambra Province, killing one of its members.

DAILY POST gathered that the political party members were holding a coming together of Uruagu Ward 3, in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election, when the men struck, disrupted the coming together with a hail of gunshots, leading to the expiry of one Somadina Oforma, a fellow member of the political party in the ward.

It was also gathered that several other members of the political party who were in the coming together sustained varying degrees of injury as a outcome of the onset.

Meanwhile, the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming election, Senator Andy Uba has said the onset was politically motivated, patch also calling on the province governor, Willie Obiano to chop-chop ascension and halt the spate of killings in the province.

The spokesperson for the Anambra Province Constabulary Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, saying it happened at in relation to 7pm on Dominicus.

Ikenga said: “Commissioner of Constabulary, Anambra Province Command CP Tony Olofu has ordered an investigation into a shooting incident at Uruagu Community, Nnewi on 26/09/2021.

“Preliminary investigation reveals the attackers at in relation to 7pm on 26/09/2021, along Uruagu Community, started shooting sporadically. 2 persons who sustained gunshot injuries were taken to the infirmary. One of the victims who was later identified as Somuadina Oforma was confirmed dead by the physician on duty patch the other is receiving handling in the infirmary.”
