The federal authorities on Tuesday flagged off the Scientific discipline, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics (STEM) program for the northwestern geopolitical zone in Kano Province.
The case was held at Authorities Secondary School (GSS) Rano local authorities council of Kano Province spell an e-Library was also commissioned at the Federal Authorities College (FGC), Kano.
Items if at the STEM centre in Rano included: 25 All-in-One Desktop PC 24inch Cover Intel 2.8 GHz quad-core, 25 Desktop tables and Chairs, one Projector of 5000 lumens, one magnetic whiteboard for learning, one WiFi Routers multi-SIM and 18 Elegoo Robotics set.
Government minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Catastrophe Direction and Social Evolution, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the STEM projection was conceived to supply a technological platform that would assistance contemporary teaching and learning of Scientific discipline Engineering Technology and Mathematics for students in some carefully selected Federal and Province-owned scientific discipline and technical secondary schools nationwide.
“The aim of STEM is to supply e-Learning facilities through the establishment of a Province-of-the-Fine art Information and Communication Engineering (ICT) infrastructure and contemporary teaching content, to serve as a one-stop-shop environs for students in public secondary schools to have access to digital and updated learning materials in Scientific discipline, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics, spell also developing their ICT skills including the usage of the internet for various purposes,” she said.
The government minister, who was represented by Permanent Secretarial assistant Bashir Nura Alkali, explained that the STEM projection has 2 components -the setting upwards of the centres in the selected secondary schools and the preparation of the teachers in the schools selected.
“Spell STEM centres are established to give students of secondary schools the opportunity to have practical experience in digital learning platforms, the preparation ingredient focuses on building the capacity of teachers in secondary schools to significantly heighten the learning of STEM which is the foundation of a digital economic system.
“The programme is designed to equip and transform STEM teachers to deliver digital literacy through preparation, mentoring and provision of devices to assistance teaching,” she added.
The government minister appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s determined focus on the evolution of immature Nigerians in the digital economic system, which she said, the STEM projection targets.
Farouq urged Kano Province to create the best usage of the equipment which are to assistance contemporary teaching and learning on Scientific discipline Engineering Technology and Mathematics to students in the digital world of nowadays.
Governor of Kano Province, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by the Secretarial assistant to the Province Authorities (SSG) Usman Alhaji, commissioned the Northwest STEM projection and commended the “foresight” of President Buhari for the programme, urging the school children to concentrate on the learning of Scientific discipline and Engineering courses.
“The STEM centre will be a source of evolution, not only to the people of Rano but the entire people of the part,” the governor said.
