Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has said that he was happy with Timo Werner’s display for Chelsea against Southampton on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel said Werner’s goal for Chelsea against Southampton was great, adding that the striker was in the right place.
Chelsea defeated Southampton at home in a Premier League tie, thanks to 3 goals from Trevoh Chalobah, Werner and Ben Chilwell.
“I’m happy for Timo and I’m happy for the squad. There was some relief when he scored for certain because it was 1-1 at the time with not too long to go and we came into the game off the dorsum of 2 defeats,” Tuchel said at this post-match press conference.
“It was a great goal and he was there in the right place, which he needs to be as a striker.
“We have the feeling that every time he scores there is some VAR choice going on to take it absent from him and really narrow decisions.
“I think one against Liverpool that was super shut but he has to maintain on going. He still can improve his game but we are happy and relieved that he scored in the tardily minutes of this game because it was a really important goal for us to secure the win and he was where he needed to be.”
Chelsea will at present face Brentford in their next Premier League match after the international break.
