NEWS UPDATE: EPL: Solskjaer created big negative at Man Utd over Ronaldo – Alex McLeish

Former Scotland manager, Alex McLeish, has insisted that Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has created a “large negative” at Old Trafford after deciding to bench star player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has been one of Man United’s outstanding players so far this flavour, scoring 5 goals in all competitions for Solskjaer’s side since joining the order from Juventus in the summertime.

But Solskjaer opted to start the 36-year-old on the bench in Man United’s in conclusion Premier League game against Everton.

His choice backfired as the Red Devils played a 1-1 draw with Everton and the Norwegian was heavily criticized for his option.

Speaking on the evolution, McLeish said Solskjaer’s choice has done to a greater extent impairment than good, adding that the United coach was trying to handle Ronaldo’s workload.

“He has in all likelihood done it to maintain his performances at a really high level and maintain his freshness,” McLeish told Football Insider.

“That is the dreams of a manager, the visions of what he is thinking – but in actual fact, it has caused a large negative because Ronaldo will want to start.

“Ole will be thinking in relation to his age, his fitness and in all likelihood because of the scheduling in football at present, perhaps managers start to overthink these things and seem ahead too early.

“Ole’s getting a fleck of stick for it, but that is what happens in direction when you are not getting the results, particularly when you don’t play your star player.”
