NEWS UPDATE: EPL: Owen names only player that played absolutely fabulous for Man Utd against Watford

Former Manchester United star, Owen Hargreaves, has named midfielder Donny van de Beek, as the only player that played ‘absolutely fabulous’ for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side against Watford.

Watford thrashed Man United 4-1 at Vicarage Route, thanks to 4 goals from Joshua Rex, Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Bonaventure.

Van de Beek, who replaced Scott McTominay, did score for Man United against Watford as captain Harry Maguire was sent off during the encounter.

“They were thoroughly outclassed by a Watford side that are downward in the relegation area,” Owen said on Premier League Productions.

“I thought the Liverpool and Manchester City games were rattling poor in terms of performance, but they played against the 2 best teams in the country. That nowadays was nearly the worst because they were outplayed by a squad with the state of affairs that they are in.

“Ole said before the game there would be a reaction, but there wasn’t. They were really worse than those 2 games so in that sense that was in relation to as poor as it’s got I think.

“There were a lot of questions leading upward to it, you would have thought a two-week break would have perhaps given them a little break coming into the Watford game. They have got Villarreal on Tuesday and they have got Chelsea on the weekend so it’s not getting whatever easier.

“United have conceded to a greater extent goals than Chelsea, City and Liverpool combined. 4 months agone we said with the squad they had they were going to be in the title race and they were on paper.

“They are so far out of the title race it’s untrue. It’s not working and that nowadays was a fleck of a scandalize fifty-fifty considering what we’ve seen against City and Liverpool. 4-1 against Watford, totally unacceptable.”

“They don’t seem similar they believed, the free energy wasn’t there, the elbow grease wasn’t there,” Owen added.

“The only player that really showed that was Donny van de Beek when he came off the bench.

“He played great. He played absolutely fabulous.”
