Mr Osita Nwanisobi, Director, Corporate Communications, said in an assertion posted on the bank’s site on Wednesday, that the bank was not dispensing eNaira money to residents as guaranteed by the fraudsters.
Nwanisobi said, “Following the conventional dispatch of the eNaira on Monday, Oct. 25, the consideration of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been attracted to criminal and criminal operations of certain people and a deceitful Twitter handle, @enaira_cbdc suspected to have a place with the Bank.
“The faker handle and fake people have been presenting messages related on the eNaira with the expectation of charming clueless Nigerians with claims that the Central Bank of Nigeria, among different falsities, is dispensing the amount of 50 Billion eNaira currency.
“These frauds are keen on duping blameless and clueless individuals from general society through the connections joined to their directives for application to acquire eNaira wallets and become recipients of the said 50 billion eNaira currency.
“For the aversion of uncertainty, the Central of Nigeria isn’t the proprietor of that twitter handle (@enaira_cbdc) and for sure suspended its quality on Twitter following the Federal Government’s boycott. As a result, the Bank isn’t dispensing eNaira money to citizens.”
