NEWS UPDATE: Death of OAU student in hotel: Culprits must face full wrath of law – MURIC

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has said that those behind the expiry of Adegoke Timothy Oludare, a postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo Academy, must face the total wrath of the law.

MURIC also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and to desist from undue speculations capable of making them bound to conclusions.

The appeal came in the wake of the expiry of Adegoke, a student of the institution’s Executive Original in Business Administration (MBA) programme in a hotel in Ile Ife.

The managing director of the human rights organisation, Professor Ishaq Akintola made the appeal in a statement on Saturday.

The statement read: “MURIC has come up across 2 sound messages containing passionate appeals made by the possessor of a hotel, Dr. Raymond (Rahman) Adedoyin and his married woman, Master Mrs. Iyabo Adedoyin, the Yeyemaye of Ile Ife. The duet appealed to members of the public, peculiarly the people of Ile Ife, to give them the chance to prove their innocence.

“The passionate appeals struck a chord in us, and we decided to bring together them in appealing to the good people of Ile Ife and its environs in specific and to Nigerians in full general. The concern of the Muslim Rights Concern is humanity, the milk of kindness that flows from the breasts of caring mothers, as good as our love for justice and fair play. We are deeply worried that the harmless may endure unduly. We are motivated by social responsibleness.

“We appeal to the people of Ile Ife, in specific, to ponder over the pop Yoruba proverb which says, ‘Though several heads are cutting off at the shrine, many of them belong to the harmless’ (Ori yeye ni mogun, ti alaise lo po). This is why nobody should bound to conclusions.

“We have faith in the Nigeria constabulary. They have unearthed many crimes in the past times and they will scissure this too. We, thus, appeal to all and sundry to allow the constabulary to do their work. Justice will be served and there will be no cover upwardly. It is a dastardly criminal offence and those behind it must face the total wrath of the law. At to the lowest degree civil society groups similar MURIC are already monitoring the example. We also call up on elders and other stakeholders to go along to calm frayed nerves, peculiarly amongst the youth.

“Both the Islamic and Christian scriptures instruct us to investigate all matters until we regain the truth instead of rushing to jurist (Glorious Qur’an 49:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; Deuteronomy 13:14). It, thus, behoves all of us to hold off patiently until the constabulary destination their findings.

“MURIC appeals to the Osun Constabulary Command to grip this example with utmost diligence and professionalism. Blackstone’s ratio 10:1 in criminal law affirms that it is superior for 10 criminals to go scot-free than for a single harmless individual to endure unduly.

“We commiserate with the bereaved household and pray that Allah will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. We every bit think the Adedoyin household and the families of the hotel staff who are presently in distress. We portion your fears and worries in this minute of trial. We charge you to be strong and to have faith. The Supreme Creator is just testing you (Glorious Qur’an 2:155; 29:2-3; Deuteronomy 8:2; Job 13:9). This loving cup shall pass.

“MURIC calls on Nigerians to pray for the suspects and members of their families because only Allah knows what really transpired at this minute. It can happen to anybody. Pray that you are not at the wrong location at the wrong time.”
