The Osun Province Authorities has revealed that a total of 198,541 and 90,076 persons have been vaccinated for the first of all and moment doses of AstraZeneca vaccines in the Province.
The Province authorities also revealed that a greater division of the 5 million population, 50 percent of which is in the 18 years bracket, were yet to be vaccinated.
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola made this known Fri during the flag-off ceremony for the COVID-19 mass vaccination cause in Osogbo.
Represented by his deputy, Benedict Alabi, Governor Oyetola recalled that the province took delivery of the first of all set of 64, 240 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines on March 9, 2021.
He disclosed that the first of all set of persons to be vaccinated were the wellness workers at the isolation centres, the deputy governor and himself, adding that it set the pace for the vaccination of wellness personnel and other frontline workers in the Province.
“We took delivery of 47,900 doses of Moderna vaccine and had the flag-off ceremony on the 4th of August, 2021.
“In my speech on that occasion, I did hope that the Federal Authorities and the National Centre for Illness Command (NCDC) were making efforts to acquire the vaccine for the relaxation of the public.
“I am happy to denote that in relation to 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been allocated to the province and all the eligible persons that are yet to be vaccinated at present have access to the vaccine,” he said.
Patch enjoining eligible citizens of the Province who are either partially vaccinated or yet to be vaccinated to take the reward of the opportunity to acquire the vaccine, the governor explained that fixed posts at primary, secondary and tertiary wellness facilities and outreach posts similar churches, mosques and others will be used for the exercise.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Osun Province Primary Health Attention Board, Oyeleke Ogunsola also revealed that Osun province is amongst the 8 states given sufficient vaccine for COVID-19 and also found worthy to be given additional vaccines by the Federal Authorities to vaccinate the entire adult population
Ogunsola who revealed that Osun Province has been involved in the vaccination against COVID-19 since March 10, 2021, added that the performance of the administration in all sectors had been nil small of astronomical in the area of wellness, with much focus on the healthcare delivery at the grassroot.
He maintained that the COVID-19 vaccine which has been tested and found to be trusted was safe and efficacious in protecting against the deadly pandemic.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative in Osun, Dr Bello Ahmed who revealed that the world body has donated N36 million for the cause, added that the back up was in view of the province’s commitment toward provision of character and functional healthcare delivery across the nooks and crannies of the Province.
