NEWS UPDATE: BREAKING: Gunmen kill Chike Akunyili, husband of late NAFDAC DG

Unidentified gunmen have killed Dr Chike Akunyili, spouse of belatedly former Managing director Full general of NAFDAC and government minister for information, Prof Dora Akunyili.

Akunyili, a medical doc was killed on Tuesday on his way from Onitsha to Umuoji at Eke Nkpor. He was said to have been killed amongst his driver and police force escort.

DAILY POST gathered that Akunyili had on Tuesday attended a lecture at Sharon Corridor, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, which was organized by the Academy of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Organization (UNAA), Onitsha department, in honour of his belatedly married woman, Prof Dora Akunyili.

The source said: “He spoke glowingly in relation to Dora his married woman, and made a donation of N500,000 to the organization.

“He was there with his son, Obum who at present works with Anambra Province regime. We saw them off to the machine and it was emotional when Obum hugged him (Chike) tight as both of them separated to bring together their respective vehicles.

“Obum was in a white Hilux spell the man was in a Prado Jeep. He must have been killed when returning from the function.”

Though endeavour to acquire confirmation from the province Police force Public Relations Officer, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga was not successful, sources in the victims community, Agulu have confirmed the incident.

A fellow member of his community said: “He lost his life at Nkpor Junction, Idemili Northward Anambra Province Tuesday 28/9/2021 when he came to Anambra to Have Accolade for the Belatedly Amazon, Prof Dora Akunyili.”

“Agbalanze (his traditional title) was killed by Unknown Gunmen. May the Lord console Akunyili household and Ndi Agulu in full general,” the source said.
