NEWS UPDATE: Baba Ijesha: Case adjourned as witness fears testifying in court

The prosecution squad of the Lagos Province Authorities on Fri told an Ikeja Special Offences Judicature that one of the witnesses set to prove against Nollywood histrion Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha is scared to prove in tribunal.

The province counsel, Mr Yusuf Sule, made the disclosure on Fri patch explaining the absence of 2 witnesses slated to prove against the histrion in his ongoing trial for sexual assault, NAN reports.

“My lord, the firstly witness who is a constabulary officer could not come up to tribunal nowadays because he has been transferred and needs to acquire permission from where he was posted to seem hither.

“The moment witness could not come up to tribunal because he is jittery, he is scared to come up to tribunal.

“My lord, we will ensure that all the witnesses are in tribunal by next Fri,” the prosecutor mentioned.

Next the submission, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned the instance until Nov 19 for the continuation of trial.

Baba Ijesha is facing a six-count charge bordering on the indecent handling of a shaver, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos Province, 2015.

In relation to 5 witnesses including the alleged victim and her foster female parent, actress and comedienne Damilola Adekoya alias Princess have testified so far for the prosecution.

The others are a shaver expert, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode; a medical MD, Dr Aniekan Makanjuola; and a constabulary officer, ASP Wahab Kareem.
