The Abia Province Authorities has announced the closure of Emelogu-Ngwa Bridge at Ogbor Hill in Aba over fundamental technology defects.
This was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Main Okiyi Kalu.
He stated that fundamental defects in the interpretation of the bridge had rendered it unsafe for exercise, hence the closure.
The Tidings Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bridge had shown marked deterioration since 2016 when Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu visited the area to access interpretation of the route linking the bridge.
Division of the statement read, “Abia Province Ministry building of Works has observed some fundamental technology defects on the Emelogu Bridge which has rendered it unfit and unsafe for vehicular traffic.
“Consequently, the ministry building has deployed some engineers and other experts to assess the state of affairs and come up upward with recommendations for instant activeness.”
The regime directed all route users in Aba to avoid Emelogu Bridge (popularly called Orji Uzor Bridge) pending the envisaged maintenance and realignment works to create it safe.
