NEWS UPDATE: 2023: We can’t gamble away our future – Gov. Emmanuel on succession plan

Akwa Ibom Province Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has urged the people not to set to risk all they’ve achieved or chance absent their futurity as they phone for his successor in 2023.

He added that all he wanted was continuity and sustainability against disruption and stagnation as good as to safeguard what they have already achieved.

The governor, who made the remarks in his broadcast speech marking the 34th anniversary celebration of the province on Thur in Uyo, the province working capital, urged the people to pick a successor that would expand on his developmental strides, adding that the province should not be allowed to go dorsum on the unity, peace and security it has attained for the futurity of its children, and in making its youths productive.

He also urged the citizens to be strongly united saying the province will accomplish a lot when the people are united.

He advised that political interests should not allow decent people to veer off the path of the Aristocracy, and should not motivate to destroy the best in the province just to satisfy the political paymasters.

The statement in parts, “As the politics of 2023 beckons, we must be witting of the moving forward as contained in our Province Anthem “forward ever backward never.

“We have to safeguard what we have already achieved. We cannot set to risk what we have; we cannot chance absent our futurity.

“Why do we appear to be propelled by the destructive impulses or the negating spirit to draw one some other downwardly?

“Why have we raised to a disturbing level, the sad and shocking tendencies to de-market our Province, and nowadays our Symbols of Authorisation in unsanitized fashion?

“Our founding fathers were united in love, shaped by the ennobling ideals of unity, and propelled by the endless possibilities each felt and believed we were capable of appropriating in unison.

“My fellow Akwaibomites, politics will come up and politics will go, but the Akwa Ibom spirit and blood that flows in us all will endure and flourish.

“Political foes you consider nowadays may be political allies tomorrow. May our Only God go on to strengthen the bonds of our unity and draw us closer to one some other in truth and in spirit, Amen.”

The Governor said in the past times 6 years spent so far in business office, he has created impact in the areas of industrialization, infrastructural consolidation, education and human working capital evolution, food sufficiency and agro allied concerns, wellness tending delivery for our people, ease of doing business through dry land, sea and air, powerfulness, aviation evolution, youth reorientation and empowerment, and rural evolution.
