NEWS UPDATE: 172 Zamfara youths diagnosed with psychiatric problems in six years

The Zamfara State Government has determined around 172 young people to have mental issues from illicit drug use in the last six years.

Mr. Ladan Hashim, the Deputy Commander of Narcotics and Assistant State Commander, Drug Demand Reduction of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state, communicated charm that the War Against Drug Abuse with Students as Positive Agents of Change at the Zamfara State College of Health Science and Technology is acquiring positive results.

He clarified that the NDLEA in Zamfara had alluded numerous patients to mental emergency clinics for treatment.

According to him, from January to September, the NDLEA secured 221, saying that 211 of them were guys and 10 females, while 152 were counselled.

In the year 2020, he expressed that 14 mental patients were recorded and engaged individuals from general society to consider the survivors of chronic drug use to be wiped out people, not criminals.

He underscored, “Consequently, a casualty of substance addiction needs our aggregate sympathy, comprehension, and backing to work with opportune mediation and recuperation through therapy, care and social integration.”

He further clarified that large numbers of the young people are presently in correctional facilities, some in therapy habitats, and a decent number have created one illness or the other like malignancy of throat, liver, or kidney damage.

Hashim said the best or most secure way is for everybody to utilize drugs dependent on clinical solution by professionals.
