The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Against Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay, has lamented that Africa and Nigeria are the worst affected by corruption.

The chairman stated this in a statement titled ‘Collective Action for Fighting Corruption,’ which was released on Monday to commemorate with this year’s African Anti-Corruption Day.

While the day is marked every July 11, event slated to celebrate it in Nigeria have been scheduled for July 14 due to Sallah holidays.

Sagay, in the statement he personally signed, pointed out that corruption is affecting notable sectors in the world, adding that it poses an existential threat to the world.

He wrote, “As fellow Nigerians and Africans can see, corruption poses an existential threat to the world. Even UNO is not spared.

“The high and mighty are accused of corruption. The private sector and the public sector are debilitated by corruption. The sports world is affected by corruption.

“Nations are experiencing unprecedented turmoil because of the ravages of corruption. Africa and Nigeria are no exception and are worse hit by corruption.

“I salute the African Union for keeping hope alive regarding the need to have a stable and prosperous Africa via checkmating corruption.

“I beseech all African leaders to lead from the front in fighting corruption for a better society on the continent.”
